Hanging in There!
It has been a long time since my last post. Between an absent hubby and lots of coughs and sniffles, I haven’t been running nearly as much as I would like but I have been getting out whenever I can. My hubby was home for a few days because of the rain and I have been making the most of every opportunity to get out for a run while he’s here to look after the kids.
I went out on Friday morning in the drenching rain. I started out jumping over puddles and finished up just plodding straight through them as I couldn’t muster the oompff too jump over them. I came home exhausted and dripping wet but felt good. Jaydee loved it. He has really missed our regular runs.
We went to my grandfather’s farm, west of Toowoomba, for the weekend. Sunday morning I was up relatively early and headed off for another run. It was so nice. No smelly car fumes. Just quiet and really peaceful as I ran down a road that was little more than a bush track that wound through the cypress pine trees. Jaydee ran ahead of me off-leash. I was a bit worried that he would take off if he spotted a kangaroo but we didn’t see any and he stayed pretty close. Around halfway through the run, I encountered a mob of cows on the path which didn’t faze me too much except that there was also a big black bull amongst them and he didn’t look like he wanted to move. Jaydee ran ahead of me, rounded up the cows and moved them off the road. He had to bark to get the bull moving but he managed it. Job completed he left them alone and came back to me. He seemed so pleased with himself. I was very impressed. I felt good after this run and I think it was a bit easier than the last one.
My hubby plans to head off again this morning so I was up early and heading out to get in one more run while I can. It was perfect running weather. I pushed it a bit harder this morning and came home quite exhausted. There really are too many hills around here. I still don’t think I have run the full 5k but I must be pretty close.
Last night I bought a very cheap manual treadmill that was adverstised in the paper. It is hard going but I’m hoping that I will be able to still have something that resembles a run when I don’t have someone to keep an eye on the kids. I just hope the kids don’t trash it before I get a chance to really test it out.
I have now finished the couch to 5k program and I think it has been fabulous. I am so pleased we did it. It feels good to set a goal and achieve it. Our new goal is the mighty 10km. We can do it!
